If there are questions about the proposed new firehouse, they should be directed to Fire Chief Dekovics. This will be the best way to dispell any rumors.
I would like to reply to the other posters of this thread.
Poster 1: The offer to help raise funds is appreciated but it is the Borough that would provide the funding. The fire department is a municipal department which means the town owns everything, the buildings, trucks, gear, etc. We only use the equipment to provide the service of fire protection. The funding for the firehouse would come from bonding or grants not from the members.
Poster 2: I'm sorry you feel this way. It is clear that you are a very disgruntled resident. The fire dept. was not and is not responsible for the current or pervious plans for Ford Ave. Sure it was mentioned several times that a firehouse was going to be a part of the development but did you really think that it would actully happen. We didn't create the list of problems you have mentioned. You have taken this thread and twisted it to fit your own personal adgenda and quite frankly that is uncalled for. You may not be happy with the current situation but why blame us or try to include us in things that have absolutely nothing to do with a new firehouse. No one is trying to hide anything or exclude anyone so why do you suggest this? This is the problem, residents have questions and they don't know who to ask for answers. As stated above, go to the Fire Chief, ask your questions, you will get answers. This way rumors and false statements can be left to a minimum.
Let me just say that the fire department has proudly served the community for almost 100 years and I am very proud to have served 20+ of those years. We have never asked for much, only what is needed to perform our job and that job is protecting the residents of Milltown. We honestly do more with less than the other fire departments in our area, just look at our budget and then compare that to the fire districts around us. The figures will shock you. Milltown a little over 40k - Fire Dist. 1 million+. Now who do you think is getting the better deal? We have two buildings, one built in the late 1800's and the other in the 1920's, so tell me, how much longer do you think we will be able to function where we are? We are all committed volunteers that are there for you whenever you are in a time of need. Now it has become our time of need. Is a firehouse really to much to ask for? I think not.
