I would like to know if there is anything extra I could feed or do for my silver laced wyandottes to get them to start laying. A friend got them from the hatchery 23 weeks ago as day-olds, she kept half, I took rest home with me - 800 miles north of her (north Wisconsin) Her chickens have been laying for about 3 weeks, mine have grown well, look great but aren't laying yet. Hers are fed commercial egg layer, mine get a recipe of home-made mixed corn, oats, roasted soybean, mineral and oyster shell. I have tried feeding worms but they won't eat them and have recently added more soybean than the recipe calls for, thinking that more protein may be needed. Are there any suggestions for stimulating these birds to lay eggs? They have a rooster with them. The weather is also getting colder here now, winter starting, although it is still in the 40s and 50s during daytime. Thanks.
