Posted by unknown on 7/30/2007 16:49: IP: 12-240-22-222.static.client.mchsi.comI have a question, i was approached today while in my pool, not knowing that you had to have a fence around the area of your pool, if your pool is over 2 ft deep. I find it funny that i myself was approached and driving around town today after approached there are 10 of the same pools i have. Then some that are not like mine but don't have a fence. I found out that some do have a retractable ladder and that is what's needed. Funny thing is i have seen some of these homes with no retractable ladders. Yet i am the one that either has to put up a fence or take my pool down. I don't find that this is fair that we would have to take ours down but everyone else in town that has one can keep it up??? I felt as even though i told this person that yes i have seen others around town that it was like a oh well. I understand the laws as i have looked at other towns that have this same thing, but what right does anyone have coming onto your property? To me that would be trespassing so if someone was to come and get in your pool and drown, yes a lawsuit could be brought but even though you don't have a do not trespass sign i think that should be taken into effect. I've heard stories of even someone having fences and someone gets into the yard and drowns in the pool.
My point is that most children are responsible enough and have been taught to not go into someone elses yard nor to get into a pool, so basically that would leave young children that have no right to be out walking without adult supervision anyways.
I'm just a little upset that i have been told this and yet there are several pools still up and have been for some time which is why we thought it was ok to put our pool up. Expecially one that comes down every year. There are a few i mean not a few but alot of those around town. I think in order to tell someone they need a fence or take their pool down that maybe everyone else around town that has one needs to do the same. We have had this pool up for sometime and we know the village reads our meter for water so why now has this person decided to come forward. This was not a village worker that i know of. At least i don't think so because i see them drive in the older police car or a truck. So is it the fact that someone decided they didn't like the idea i had a pool with no fence or what????
Again i understand the worries and why fences are required but come on, the kids that are old enough to be out without adult supervision should know better than to get in a pool, and the ones that are not old enough should have a adult with them.
Just wondering if i was the only one told i had to have a fence or take down the pool lately???
