On behalf of our family, my husband and I want to thank everyone involved in helping to inform us in Pecatonica, as to the ammonia leak in Seward. I want to thank Bill Faller and Tom Hoffman and staff who were up all night helping at the High School. I want to thank our police department, fire department and EMT's, as well as the State Police and other local police, fire departments and EMT's for all their hard work. I also want to thank the American Red Cross. We all blessed that no one got seriously hurt from this incident.

In my opinion I wish the news did a better coverage. Following the PA announcement in the Streets that night where I live at 11:30 pm- to wake up and recommending we go to the H.S., I turned on all the local stations. It was 15 minutes later and only on one of the stations did a breaking news flash come on about further evacuations. The morning news coverage was not much better as to the events outside of Seward area.

For me, this begs the question as to would have happened if this was a more immediate threat? There would be no time to knock on doors or drive up and down seeking to warn us. Why have we not replaced our prior early warning system? What would it take for us to work together to have one? The valiant efforts of our hardworking officers, fire and emergency personnel can only go so far. Let's not wait and say " we should have". I am willing to donate my time and energy to address this issue and to raise funds if needed.
