Even if you are not a subscriber to the Valley Roadrunner newspaper, you must surely be aware of the farce that SDG&E is attempting to perpetrate on the residents of Valley Center and the whole of the North County.
SDG&E proposes through their "Emergency Shut Off Plan" to cut power to certain districts in Valley Center, when certain weather related criteria are met. See the link below for further details.

What SDG&E has not stipulated on their website is that when the power gets shutoff to a particular area of Valley Center, the Valley Center Municipal Water District's water pumps are turned off as well. This leaves local and Cal-Fire with NO WATER resources to combat any fire[s] that would endanger themselves and the life and property of local residents. I cannot imagine a Cal-Fire Incident Commander marshaling his resources to fight a fire and relying solely on water tenders and air drops.
Does no one at SDG&E have any common sense at all? It is apparent to anyone with a modicum of sense that this "plan" has far reaching consequences.
Should we experience a fire the likes of which we did in October, 2007, it takes little imagination to conclude that it has the potential to take out much of Valley Center as we know if, should there be no available water to fight such a fire.
Secondly, most people and the new media in general are deluding themselves in the fact this this uproar is about SDG&E petitioning the PUC for permission to shut off the power. IT IS NOT!
SDG&E is actually petitioning the Public Utilities Commission to give it "tort immunity" from lawsuits that will most likely occur once SDG&E cuts the power.
No one person or entity should ever be granted a "blanket immunity" from lawsuits. Everyone and every entity must be held accountable for their actions, no matter how "altruistic" their motives.
